Installation, 2022
The installation deals with permanent planting, a cultivation method where crops are fully planted without the need for further transplanting. As an example, in South Korea, onions are sown in late August and then planted in designated cultivation areas by mid-October. These onions, once permanently planted, endure rigorous winter conditions, resulting in increased sweetness and firmness compared to those planted in spring.
This kinetic work explores the link between cultivation techniques and plant behaviors, using electrostatic energy to visually depict their interplay. The responsive electrostatic phenomena, triggered by the viewer’s touch, mimic the sensitivity observed in plant entities. Delicate white papers move up and down based on the static electricity controlled by a cyclical-sounding system. It reflects susceptibility to environmental conditions, particularly humidity, akin to plant life.
