This project is rooted in research on scientific studies of plant growth requirements. It draws specific inspiration from Jan Van Helmont’s five-year willow tree experiment in 1600, which demonstrated that only water was responsible for the tree’s weight gain. Leveraging his experiment and relevant research, ‘A seed room’ envisions hypothetical conditions for a futuristic seed composed of sponges. For its progressive weight increase, the installation suggests imaginative growing factors such as music, light, darkness, and another being in the seed’s room.
